What if..... workshop no.1

Generic Parts Techniques:

Systematic way to change how you think about things and approach problems.

To avoid unintentionally narrowing people's conception of it.

LET'S BE INNOVATIVE!

e.g. titanic sinking

lifeboats→floating things

-think of the aim (e.g. keep people afloat, warm, and breathing)

-think more simply

-think of the basic aims of the problem and don't be fixed onto the original thing

floating things→wooden tables, icebergs, planks, etc....

REFRAME THE QUESTION

QUESTION THE THING YOU ARE LOOKING AT

This is called:

*Functinal Fixedness

and also... *Goal Fixedness

the way goals are phrased often narrows people's thinking. Framing a problem is more general. You can do this by rephrasing words into more general terms.

e.g.

"glue on"→"fasten on"

"camera"→"mirror, reflection, capture, data capture"

use thesaurus to CHANGE YOUR LANGUAGE

IMPORTANT WORDS:

-FUNCTIONAL FIXEDNESS

-GOAL FIXEDNESS

(I needed to stop thinking about the original idea)

(add more further related words)

Words that I thought were interesting:

-teamwork

-pretend

-inspire

Words I've come up with further:

idea, happy, admire, sigh, sweat, protect, defend, fight, compete, dog, beauty, heart, crying, presentation, laying down, question, debate, business, vacation, surfing, hobbies, brain, blankets,
