flow of what my research should look like
(contextual research, do all of the looking up and printing out of existing artists, but not only artists but films, books and etc. primary research is experimental work using all kinds of media. secondary research would be using review of an artwork, or a reproduction of an existing artwork. )
2. Videos
-look at how he first experiments his drafts and then his final outcome
-"Design is a process. Design is somehow being comfortable with the fact that you have no idea where this thing is going. In fact, if you think about it, if you do know where the thing is going, why even bother to start to begin with. You might feel better in the short term but the thing is not going to be that interesting and you’ve already been there before. So I think the unknown is such an important part…"
-it is totally normal to be struggling throughout the whole process

-all the steps of the silly experiments are important to make the final decent work
3. Reflection
-To make the best use of reflection, you need to start it now, by considering your own journey through Graphics to this point. This should be as visual as possible. Consider what have been the most significant factors, identifying your failures as well as your successes. Be honest with yourself! This will give you greater insight into your working methods and creativity, and will help you to produce better results.

Reminder: some FMP dangers!
• Projects that are built on assumptions with no evidence to support them ‘I want to do a project on
how bad mobile phones are’
• Projects that have no relation to communication design ‘I haven’t had a chance to do any
sculpture recently’
• Projects that are only about a process ‘I want to try screen printing'
• Too long spent on secondary and contextual research in the first two weeks
• Projects that do not really engage you, but you think that it is the sort of thing that real graphic
designers do
• Projects that are unrealistic in the time frame. The FMP is a brilliant opportunity to learn
something new but if you have never made a film before you must to allow time to learn software
• Projects that are self-indulgent and don’t consider communication and audience
Some FMP advice:
• Find a project that involves learning something new
• Find a subject that you are genuinely interested in
• Look back to previous projects and find something that you would have liked longer to develop
