BOOKS text and images ideas simultaneously
Book making has many types of people involved in it (e.g. author, graphic designer, illustrator, book binder, printer etc.)
book binding has a hand-made specialty from the CONCEPT/ CONTENT/ DESIGN/ PRODUCTION/ BOOK
-Idea and realisation, realise your ideas, then be able to make the thing
-Design in books (e.g. image and typography, layout, paper/materials, construction)
Jan Tschichold's Ideal Page Proportion
Jan Tschichold
-calligrapher, typographer, and book designer
-contributed to the development of graphic design in the 20th century
-first, by developing and promoting principles of typographic modernism, and subsequently (and ironically) idealizing conservative typographic structures
Photo on the top row on the right demonstrates one of his guides for the 'perfect' page.
No matter the page size, you will always end up with a 9×9 grid, with the textblock 1/9th from the top and inside, and 2/9ths from the outside and bottom.
Apparently, this goes back to the golden ratio. I guess this is the part where you can tell he idealised conserative typographic structure. I think I agree with him on the idea that typography and graphic design when it comes to something you'll read should be based off of traditional stuctures that has always been recognised as something that is easy to read. If you can't read it, where's the point in communicating it?
Lower row photo is an example of a page that follow Tschichold's rule.

THOUGHTS
I absolutely loved book binding when I made the zines with John. But those were illustration based so one day I would like to find a topic that I can write sentences about and try making a professional looking book.
Maybe I could type out my journal or something. I wonder what kind of design that would come out of.
I do agree with Jan Tschichold's opinion on traditional values on the structure of pages. Things should be easy to see and read. I think there is a difference when you can become artistic and experimental in typography, but be very strict when it comes to graphic design.
